I’ve always been a trend seeker or trend spotter, but when stories about Zadie Smith started to percolate up in front of me as i was going about my days, not unlike my spotify starts to mimic the music i’m singing, i knew something was forthcoming from my lifelong all time favorite english novelist, Zadie Smith…Happy was i to discover she was overdue to publish some new work. I immediately added it to audible. (The last time I’d even bought a hardcover book was probably when I was finishing one of her last works in her repertoire).
I knew I had to do a post about her style.
Smith is not only a fashion icon, but also an award-winning novelist. Her debut novel, White Teeth, was an instant success and earned her a multitude of awards, including the Whitbread Book Award for Best First Novel. It changed my life. Smith's novels explore themes of identity, culture, and race, and her writing is a reflection of her own multicultural background. Smith is also a master of language, and her works are a tribute to the power of words known for their wit, intelligence, and insight.
According to the UK Times , her writing represents the voice of the 21st century. And her style POV – given that she is a style icon of mine and of many others – it as perfectly crafted and well put together as her writing. She is hardcore AF, fashionwise . And I never knew her to be such a fashion lover. She is one who claims J.W.Anderson to be her good friend. She has been the muse of Miuccia Prada. And this month along with a review of her aforementioned book The Fraud , British Vogue has beautifully styled her in Alaia and Margiela.
